Nice nutty rice and is a great side dish for fish or chicken.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
1 cup brown basmati rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
A couple grinds of black pepper
2 1/2 cups of water
1. Rinse the rice with water to get rid of the starchy coating. Use a sieve or just swirl around in a bowl with water rinsing with fresh water a few times.
2. Place rinsed rice in a medium sized pot with water, salt and pepper.
3. You will find brown basmati rice takes more time to cook than white basmati rice, that’s why there is that extra 1/2 cup of water added. Cover the pot with a lid and bring everything up to a boil, now immediately reduce the heat to low, keeping the pot covered. DO NOT MIX the rice while it is cooking, it may become sticky and clumpy if you do this, just leave it alone to cook. Cook until the rice is light and fluffy and there is no water at the bottom of the pot, about 30 minutes. Serve hot.
