I think this tastes just like the kettle corn you buy at festivals or fairs. It’s a nice twist on regular popped popcorn and it solves that salty sweet craving.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4-5
Ingredients:
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
Salt to taste
Directions:
1. Heat heavy bottomed, high side pot over a MEDIUM heat! Not medium high or you will burn the sugar and the popcorn. Now add oil and 3 kernels of popcorn to pot. When all three kernels pop, add the sugar and stir it around well and immediately add the rest of the popcorn.
2. Alternate shaking the pot for three seconds with letting it sit on the burner for three seconds until you hear the popping begin to slow down. Then, TURN OFF THE HEAT, take off the lid and sprinkle some salt in, replace the lid, give it another shake and pour it out into a bowl, please do all these steps as quickly as you can, otherwise the popcorn at the bottom of the pot may darken a little. Have not burned a batch yet with the 3 second shake and sit technique. You will need to use oven mitts to hold the handles of the pot when you are shaking it.
Whoot! Been waiting for this one, thanks Katheryn
I was thinking of you when I was making it. Just make sure you do the 3 second shake and sit and it will not burn. I’m glad you are still following the blog. Thanks!
